LASCHET: My impression is that the French president's initiative in Lebanon is an effort to revive this idea. It's also necessary when you consider the power dynamic in the region. LASCHET: We need a European solution. The refugees are not only on Greek soil, they're also in Europe and that's why we must help Greece. POLITICO: Moria is just a symptom of a larger problem. How should Europe tackle the longer-term questions surrounding migration? LASCHET: The issue of migration and the pressures on Europe are going to remain. We can't leave the country on Europe's periphery alone. If we want to avoid a situation like in 2015, we have to address the problem at the EU's external borders and not on the frontier between Germany and Austria when all of a sudden hundreds of thousands are standing at the door.
